这个效果主要来自众多的长行,长行长达七个音步,如“I know you believe for the moment the rain is my doing.”。
Rain
by Sean O'brien
1 At ten pm it starts. We can hear from the bar
2 As if somebody humourless fill in the dots,
3 All the dots on the window, the gaps in between.
4 It is raining. It rained and has always been raining.
5 If there were conditionals they too would rain.
6 The future tense is partly underwater. We must leave.
7 There's a road where the bus stop is too far away
8 In the dark between streetlights. The shelter's stove in
9 And a swill of old tickets awaits us.
10 Transitional, That's what we are sayying,
11 But we're metaphysical animals:
12 We know a watery grave when we see it
13 And how the bald facts of brute nature
14 Are always entailed by mere human opinion,
15 So this is a metaphor. Someone's to blame
16 If your coat is dissolving, if rain is all round us
17 And feels like the threats-cum-advise of your family
18 Who know I am up and have come and will go to no good.
19 They cannot tempted to alter their views
20 In the light of that sizzling bulb. There it goes.
21 Here we are: a black street without taxis or buses.
22 An ankle-high wave is advancing
23 To ruin your shoes and my temper. My darling,
24 I know you believe for the moment the rain is my doing.
25 Tonight we will lie in the dark with damp hair.
26 I too am looking for someone to blame. O send me
27 the metro inspetor, a stony-faced barmaid.
28 The library is flooding, and we have not read it,
29 The cellar is flooding and we shall be thirsty,
30 Trevor Mcdonald has drowned as the studio shorts
31 And the weather-girl goes floating past
32 Like Esther Williams with her clothes on,
33 Mouthing the obvious: raining.
34 There's no need to labour the obvious, dearest, you say,
35 As you wring out your nylons and shoot me.
